A few days ago I ran the Plum KV in Courchevel, France. A 1000m climb over 5km. The event is run as a self seeded time trial with competitors starting at 30sec intervals based on their expected time. This is something I believe we don't do enough of in NZ, though that is a discussion for a different time. Those hoping to run under 60min start at 7:00pm. Of the fourty-ish runners that started after 7:00pm I think I was one of three runners without poles. I absolutely would have used them had I had access to them. It got me thinking about their use and usefulness.
