The Marathon des Sables is a six day, 254 kilometre race across the parts of the Sahara Desert in Southern Morocco. The race, run since 1986, offers a unique set of challenges. The race demands that participants deal with sand, heat and multiple days running long distances carrying all the food that you will need over the course of the six days. With a minimum calorie intake of 2000 cal. a day, there is further complication between calculating adequate nourishment and backpack weight.
