For those of us with even a passing interest in running culture and lore, athletes who live and train at high altitude are seen to have increased performance than those that do not. Stepping past Kilian Jornet, Anton Krupicka et al, you can consider whole races of people are seen to benefit from living high above sea level. Case in point, the 50 years of success that various Kenyan athletes have had over various distances. Whilst it would be disingenuous and disrespectful to suggest that high altitude is the only factor that contributed to this nation’s dominance at the sport, you may argue that training at high altitude and racing at low altitude is advantageous to performance.
