I struggle as much as anyone in terms of being concerned with negative feedback. No one likes sticking his or her head up over the parapet in regards to appearing displeased or disparaging about an event that people are excited about, but in this case I feel that I must. I am concerned about “ultra endurance events” such as the recently opened Revenant Ultra Run. Certainly I have nothing against the race organisers, however I question the wisdom of the majority of people who are intending to enter. And here’s why-

Article: Ultra Run Looks Likely Written By: Daniel Birchfield 300km race along trail would finish in Oamaru Oamaru is set to be the finish point of New Zealand’s first staged ultra run, scheduled to be held in early 2018. Mike Sandri, of Oamaru, is the driving force behind the Alps 2 Ocean Ultra Staged Run, which will involve competitors running the length of the 300km cycle trail which extends from Aoraki Mt Cook to Oamaru. This weekend a James Kuegler Coaching athlete will attempt to run the Leadville Trail 100 (160km) in 25 hours, passing twice over a mountain outside of Leadville, Colorado. How do you train somebody to do that, and how does it fit with the ethos of the lifelong runner?
