The Race Around The World, Antartica
A Christmas Day tradition at the South Pole where participants race 3.2km, passing through all world time zones and lines of longitude.
Since 1979, Christmas Day in Antartica has been celebrated with a 3.2km race around the South Pole. Competitors run, walk, ski, or snowshoe their way around the pole. The prize for winning is a five minute hot shower, which compared with the standard two minute showers.
