Now well over four decades old, the City2Surf was first organised in 1971, when a journalist at the Sun-Herald newspaper was inspired by San Francisco's Bay to Breakers event. As the name suggests, the 14km City2Surf starts in Sydney's CBD and finishes at iconic Bondi Beach.
From de Castella to Moneghetti, many Australian running legends appear on the winners' lists. Many of the 80,000 participants run in fancy dress, and use the event as an opportunity to fundraise for a number of different charities.
