Fundamental Running Technique

Drawn on an iPhone in a cafe, here are the five things that I believe are fundamental and should apply to the way that all runners run.

  1. Lift the heel (using the Hamstrings muscles).
  2. Drive the knee forward (simultaneous with the heel lift).
  3. Drop (place) the foot down (rather than forward).
  4. Run with a high leg turnover (cadence).
  5. Run softly and quietly.

There are many more layers to the onion, though if a runner is achieving these five things, then I suggest that their chances of success are going to be pretty good.
