Event of the Week:
The Marathon du Médoc is the original event that combined wine with running. The aim of the organisers is to promote the elements of sport, health, conviviality and fun.
When: September Where: Pauillac, FRANCE Distance: 42.2km Terrain: Road and Dirt Road Climate: 15-25oC Website: www.marathondumedoc.com The course loops through the Médoc region, winding its way through more than fifty vineyards and châteaux and vineyards. Refreshments are provided at the châteaux, as well as local cuisine including foie gras, oysters and cheeses. The majority of the field take part with the intention of experiencing the atmosphere of the event. Many don fancy dress for the event. Rather than rushing through refreshment stations, participants take their time, sampling the wine en route. Perhaps with health in mind, the event has a 6.5 hour time limit. The event concludes with a fireworks display and ball in the evening. |
