What goes up, must come down, and it is all downhill from here to the finish line, well, kind of.
The section from Lake Harris to Routeburn Falls Hut is steep, rocky and very rough. If you have trained specifically for rocky terrain, this will likely be your favourite section of the event.
Keep your eyes peeled for the mohua (yellowhead) that live in and around the rock arch you will pass under. With fewer than 5000 birds in the wild, the mohua are extremely rare. The bird that features on the New Zealand $100 note is identifiable by a beautiful splash of bright yellow that covers its head and breast.
Enjoy the dramatic landscape around the Routeburn Falls, before descending further on a much more groomed track to the Routeburn Flats.
