Event of the Week:

Sierre Zinal, Switzerland

Set in Switzerland's Valais Alps, Sierre Zinal is considered one of the world's finest mountain races. The race has been nicknamed 'course des cinq 4000', paying homage to the five 4000m+ peaks which tower over the route.

The race attracts a top-class international field, with the very demanding course climbing 1500m over the first 10km of the race, peaking at a high point of 2,425m.

The winner's roll reads as a who's who of mountain running with the likes of Kilian Jornet, Marco De Gasperi & Stevie Kremer having won the event. The record for the 31km event is held by New Zealand's Jonathan Wyatt in a shade under 2:30.

The event is extremely well supported from the spectators in the small village of Chandolin, to hikers perched on precipices shouting “Hop! Hop!” or “Allez-Allez” to any and all participants.
